After months of shared work, co-creation, and deep collaboration, we’re excited to present the first public release of the WIMBY & JustWind4All Joint Policy Brief: now available to read, share, and use.
This document is the result of a truly collective effort: two sister projects working side by side for nearly three years, learning from each other, exchanging tools and insights, and engaging with communities and experts across Europe.
We first introduced the Policy Brief during our joint Policy Breakfast at the final event in Brussels, and now it’s time to share it widely and give everyone the chance to explore what we’ve learned.
What’s inside the Policy Brief?
Europe needs to accelerate wind deployment, but speed alone is not enough. WIMBY and JustWind4All set out to answer a central question:
👉 How can we accelerate wind energy in ways that are both just and effective?
Drawing from advanced modelling, holistic impact assessment, participatory tools, and years of stakeholder engagement, the Policy Brief presents six key “how-to” areas for policymakers and practitioners:
- Holistic assessment
Clearer, standardised methods to navigate socio-ecological trade-offs, global impacts, and biodiversity constraints. - Holistic energy system modelling
Connecting macro and micro scales to align targets with local realities and social acceptance. - Participation in decision-making
Early, continuous, and meaningful engagement that gives citizens real influence — not just consultation. - Financial participation
Compensation, co-ownership, and inclusive models to ensure communities share in the benefits. - Modelling, open data & transparency
Trustworthy planning requires harmonised, accessible, and transparent data and tools. - Untapped resources
From airborne to floating wind and repowering, innovation can reduce land pressure and improve acceptance.
This Policy Brief is designed to support policymakers, planners, developers, and communities in navigating the complexities of wind energy expansion, with justice, trust, and transparency at the core.
