The WIMBY project invites you to our interactive workshops in Pantelleria (Italy) from 16-20 September 2024.
Join us for these interactive workshops aimed at engaging the local community of Pantelleria, gathering valuable data, and strengthening relationships with residents. This event offers a unique opportunity to participate in an innovative 3D virtual reality (VR) game designed to incorporate community input into wind energy planning. Through these workshops, participants will explore an immersive VR experience developed by BOKU University to plan, assess, and visualise potential wind farm locations.
The workshops are not only about interactive gaming but also feature networking moments where refreshments and drinks will be provided. These sessions will enable us to better understand the needs and opinions of Pantelleria’s citizens and stakeholders, fostering a closer and more constructive collaboration.

Pantelleria’s landscapes, which are crucial for quality of life, tourism, and wildlife, may be affected by wind energy projects. Our approach aims to address potential conflicts by integrating community feedback into wind energy planning through VR simulations. This method allows participants to evaluate the environmental, economic, and societal impacts of their decisions, ensuring a balanced and sustainable approach to wind energy development.
Last but not least, after each 3D workshop, additional interactive activities will take place for interested participants:
- one by Nazka and Deep Blue srl, focusing on the WIMBY web-GIS platform demo
- a second one proposing a gamified mental mapping workshop organised by the University of Utrecht
- during the sessions, Kelso Institute Europe and Paul Scherrer Institut will conduct interviews with stakeholders who are willing to share their experiences
