Interactive Platform
Welcome to the WIMBY Interactive Platform: a collaborative digital space for mapping, simulation, and dialogue on wind energy
The WIMBY Interactive Platform empowers stakeholders to visualise, simulate, and collaboratively discuss wind-power development across Europe. Combining an advanced WebGIS system with a user-driven interactive forum, the platform enables informed, inclusive decision-making on the future of wind energy.
Start simulations, comment on geospatial data, and join discussions with experts, policymakers, local communities, and other users. Whether you’re a citizen, researcher, or industry representative, the platform welcomes your insights.
WebGIS: visualise data, assess impacts, plan better
The WIMBY WebGIS is a powerful geospatial tool designed to:
- Visualise wind resources and spatial constraints
- Explore potential impacts (environmental, technical, social, economic)
- Support both continental-level and local-scale assessments
- Download key datasets (wind patterns, landscape quality, LCA results, etc.)
Unlike existing platforms, WIMBY’s WebGIS integrates multidimensional data from across the project to reflect real-world trade-offs and opportunities: helping users make sense of complex information.
Key features:
- Intuitive interface to navigate spatial layers
- Zoom into specific areas of interest
- Understand implications for safety, regulation, funding, and job creation
- Link directly to user comments and forum threads
General Forum: a space to discuss and collaborate
The WIMBY General Forum is a digital hub for multi-stakeholder interaction. Linked directly to the WebGIS, the forum allows users to:
- Comment directly on the map, associating remarks with specific locations
- Start and reply to threads on wind energy challenges, benefits, and concerns
- Use tags to sort and filter topics
- Engage in cross-sector exchanges with citizens, authorities, businesses, energy communities, researchers, and more
Forum goals:
- Empower citizens and communities
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing across disciplines
- Improve transparency and social acceptance
- Support informed, inclusive planning
How it was built: co-creation process
Through workshops, iterative feedback, and ongoing dialogue, the design and functionalities of the platform have evolved to reflect real needs and perspectives.
The platform is designed to be:
- Responsive on desktop and mobile
- Accessible following WCAG 3.0 guidelines (AA level)
- Customisable (e.g. dark mode, follow threads)
- Multilingual: Interface available in English, Norwegian, Italian, Portuguese, and German. While user comments are not auto-translated, we suggest using tools like DeepL for smooth interaction.
