Goodbye, WIMBY – and thank you for these three years

After three years of research, collaboration, fieldwork, innovation, and dialogue, the WIMBY project comes to a close. And while this is a goodbye, it is also a moment to celebrate everything that has been built together.

Over these years, WIMBY has worked side by side with researchers, policymakers, industry experts, local stakeholders, students, and citizens across Europe to explore one central question: how can wind energy be planned in a way that is transparent, inclusive, and socially accepted? The answers took shape through innovative frameworks, participatory methodologies, immersive tools, and real-world workshops in our pilot regions.

Together, we developed:

  • Advanced environmental, societal, and deployment assessment frameworks

  • A Web-GIS interactive map and forum for informed decision-making

  • An immersive 3D environment for visualising wind energy scenarios

  • A methodological framework for participatory wind farm planning

  • And a rich collection of datasets, interviews, reports, and scientific publications

All these results are now brought together in our Results Pack, a concise and accessible document that summarises WIMBY’s key outputs in one place. You can explore it, along with all public deliverables, on our website. And of course, we strongly invite you to try our tools, which are online and will remain available after the project ends.

This goodbye is also a big thank you. Than you to:

  • to all partners who believed in this project from day one
  • to the communities and stakeholders who opened their doors to us during the workshops
  • to everyone who followed us, participated in our events, watched our webinars, read our updates, and gave us valuable feedback along the way.

Even if the project is formally ending, WIMBY’s journey is not over. In the coming months, we will continue to:

  • Upload final deliverables and resources to the website

  • Share media content and results

  • Promote publications and policy-oriented outputs

So please, keep following us on our social media channels and check back on the website, you won’t want to miss what’s still to come.

From all of us in the WIMBY consortium:
thank you for being part of this journey 💚🌬
